February 6 - February 21, 6:00am - 12:00am
Federation Square, Corner Swanston Street & Flinders Street, Melbourne

Melbourne will light up this Chinese New Year with large light displays on show over the entire two weeks of the Festival’s celebrations. The cities festivities will be showcased and the larger than life light displays will connect Federation Square, Southbank and Docklands.

All the Chinese New Year fun and events happening at Federation Square will be complemented by a giant illuminated Chinese fan and Chinese lanterns, plus two Chinese luck children and three illuminated monkeys in theme with the Year of the Monkey.

The walk along Southbank will be radiant with large Chinese zodiac lanterns depicting the 12 zodiac animals in the Chinese calendar. A monkey arch corridor, plus Chinese opera lanterns with a sound scape to match will be located at Queensbridge Square, and a large Dragon’s Head will be peeking out of the Eureka Tower. The Sandridge Bridge will feature a windmill corridor and Chinese lanterns, and there will be gleaming pandas adorning the Southbank Pedestrian Bridge.

The bright fun continues in Docklands where sixteen 3.5 metre tall moon and star lanterns will lead the way to a 20 metre long and 5 metre high illuminated Phoenix.

There’s so much fun just waiting to be discovered across Melbourne during this Chinese New Year Festival.
